The area where once stood is now a large Segesta archaeological site in multiple layers. Here, in fact, excavations have gradually brought to light the remains of the original allocation Elim, age Hellenistic-Roman settlement Muslim, Norman-Swabian castle and medieval times.
The golden age is related to the Elimi, of which more Segesta was the most important city. However, his appearance was strongly influenced by the culture and style of the Greeks.
The city was built on two hills, on top of Mount Barbaro.
The walls includes two acropolis (North and South). Alongside the Acropolis North is the Theatre. Outside the walls you will find the Temple, the Sanctuary of Contrada Mango and the remains of a Hellenistic necropolis.
